The family left us at around 11 pm last night to drive to a camp site in Northern Italy, we got a message about 2 pm today that they had arrived all OK, but had had many hold ups on the way. Stitch, their little dog was obviously quite upset at them leaving because he started howling at 5 30 this morning so we had to get up, at least Joan did, and took him out. It was left to me to make early coffees and sort out an early breakfast.

After breakfast we walked into the centre of Nieuwkoop village to look around the market. Because the weather is still a bit iffy, some of the stalls had not turned up, but it was nice to see the weekly market that we had known in the late 70s and early 80s.

We then walked back via the Jumbo supermarket, bought some essentials for ourselves. By essentials, I mean red and white wine, some meat and veggies for dinner.

Stitch, the dog, seems to have settled quite quickly as he spent most of the night curled up on my feet.
